If you want to get overwhelmed (and very bored), try to google
*EVERY* guitar scale. With the exception of prog rock geniuses,
this probably doesn't get most people inspired and fired up to
play.
The reality is, there are a ton of scales out there (and I mean a
TON...) and most western music is only based around a handful.
Yeah, that means most of the awesome solos and riffs that we
listen to, get wowed by, and try to learn are only a drop in the
bucket of music theory.
And that's great! That means we can make great, timeless music
without having to spend our entire lives hitting the books! But
there is more to using those scales than just knowing them. You
could go out and memorize every scale pattern out there and still
never get the right sound out of them. So that's what we're going
to look at today. You don't need to endlessly memorize, you just
need to play smart!
