The Maasai Community have a number of ceremonies which celebrate circumcision, marriage, warrior-shaving, milk-drinking, meat-eating and others at different times of their lives It is a tradition in the Maasai society that all boys and girls undergo initiations held for minors before getting circumcised The minor initiations made for girls mostly concentrate on circumcision and marriage, while a bigger part of the initiations is meant for the men After this process, the boys move closer to adulthood by forming age-set groups The women get married and are therefore recognized by the age-sets of their husbands
In the Maasai culture, ceremonies are used as a way of expressing their culture and self-determination All the ceremonies form a part of their lives because they are rites of passage The younger Maasai boys and girls get very anxious to reach the right age and qualify to go through these rites of passage
