Lastly, we will shine on a spotlight on the agricultural sector: Agriculture, and the agri-food sector in a broader sense, is one of the major economic activities that is most exposed to the negative impacts of climate change and at the same time a significant driver of climate change, via methane emissions, deforestation, and biodiversity loss, thus calling for a unique blend of adaptation measures and mitigation strategies. To date, however, climate action in the sector that is both meaningful and coordinated remains rare due to the absence of a consensus on several critical issues. Whether alleged or real, the reported tension between efforts to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture and questions of food security has further complicated long-term planning.
